Employer-sponsored insurance and healthcare quality

The debate on healthcare financing rages, fiercer in particular in the US lately preparatory it appears to the 2008 presidential elections. Proponents of universal coverage refer to the large numbers of Americans lacking health insurance, disparities in accessibility even among those that do due to, among other reasons, the vagaries of employer-sponsored insurance. About 160 million Americans, two thirds of the country’s nonelderly population had employer-sponsored healthcare coverage in 20041.
